Tsunami Storm Back to Drown Raiders in High-Scoring Clash
The Tsunami used a massive second-period surge to power past the Raiders in an entertaining, back-and-forth matchup filled with highlight-reel performances and momentum swings.
The Tsunami struck first in the opening period, as Justin Sarnoski buried a pass from Adam Williams to get things started. Paul Gomes followed with a goal from Kevin Makela, and Sarnoski added his second of the night—set up beautifully by Williams and Makela—to give Tsunami early control.
But the Raiders answered in a big way. Tawan scored off a feed from CJ Gamble, sparking a five-goal burst. Gamble added one unassisted, Olivier Boisnic finished a setup from Brandon Vick, Gamble struck again from Tawan, and Vick capped the rally with an unassisted goal of his own. After one period, the Raiders had flipped the script and carried the momentum.
The second period, however, belonged entirely to the Tsunami.
Kevin Makela ignited the comeback with a goal from Adam Simpson and Paul Gomes, then added another unassisted. He completed his hat trick off a slick feed from Paul Gomes, as the Tsunami offense began to overwhelm the Raiders’ defense. Reuven joined the scoring from Sarnoski, and Paul Gomes netted back-to-back unassisted goals to stretch the lead. Makela wasn’t done—he scored his fourth of the period off Simpson, finishing a dominant seven-goal frame for the Tsunami. Vick managed the lone Raiders goal of the period, but the tide had clearly turned.
In the third, Tsunami stayed in control. Makela scored his fifth unassisted and later added his sixth from Williams, capping a six-goal performance. Reuven picked up his second of the game from Simpson to extend the lead even further. Vick scored his third of the night late for the Raiders, assisted by Gamble, but it was too little, too late.
Kevin Makela led the way with a six-goal performance, while Paul Gomes contributed three goals and two assists. Justin Sarnoski added two goals and a helper, and Adam Williams and Adam Simpson played key roles in the playmaking effort.
After a tight first period, the Tsunami unleashed a relentless offensive wave that the Raiders simply couldn’t contain.
Raccoons Edge Kryptonite in Overtime Thriller
It took extra time to decide this back-and-forth battle, but the Raccoons ultimately outlasted Kryptonite in a thrilling overtime finish.
The Raccoons opened the scoring in the first period when Alex Brito struck unassisted to set the tone. Paul Sanders followed with a goal off a feed from Erik Fowlie, giving the Raccoons an early edge. Kryptonite answered quickly, however, with Troy scoring unassisted before Jock Paul added one of his own to even things up after one.
The second period continued the tight contest. Brito scored his second of the night unassisted, and Sanders added another solo effort to push the Raccoons ahead. Kryptonite refused to back down—Jock Paul scored twice in the frame, including one set up by Troy, completing his hat trick and keeping the game deadlocked heading into the third.
The final regulation period was a rollercoaster. Paul gave the Raccoons the lead, and Brito added his hat-trick goal off Fowlie’s second assist of the night. Fowlie then took over offensively, scoring from Sanders before adding another unassisted tally to extend the advantage.
But Kryptonite mounted a furious comeback. Jock Paul scored his fourth of the game unassisted, and Andy Xie added back-to-back unassisted goals to swing the momentum. Troy then buried his second of the night to tie the game late, forcing overtime in dramatic fashion.
In the extra frame, each captain was tasked with a penalty shot each. Marat Abishev made a huge stop on Kryptonite captain Sean Lee, and Paul Sanders played the hero, scoring his fourth goal of the night on a penalty shot to seal the victory for the Raccoons.
Alex Brito finished with a hat trick, Paul Sanders recorded four goals including the overtime winner, and Erik Fowlie added two goals and two assists in a strong all-around effort. Jock Paul’s four-goal performance and Kryptonite’s relentless push made it a classic—but in the end, the Raccoons found a way to prevail.
